Lone Pine has been farmed by the Keown family since 1977, when Dave's parents purchased the Raes Junction property. Dave farmed in partnership with his father for 13 years before taking over the farm with his wife Kath in 2000.
Lone Pine is a 1640 hectare sheep and beef property situated in Raes Junction, on the boundary of West Otago and Central Otago. The property is centrally located at the junction of State Highway 90 and State Highway 8. Lone Pine has a northern aspect at a moderate altitude. The property ranges from 140m to 615m above sea level.
Lone Pine is mostly rolling to steep hill country. The property is fenced into approximately 100 hill blocks and paddocks, including extensive lane systems. All paddocks and hill blocks have gravity-fed reticulated water systems or natural water sources. Shelter is provided naturally through native scrub/vegetation. Extensive development is still ongoing, with fencing and cultivation being carried out on a yearly basis.
Lone Pine currently winters 6000 sheep and 360 cattle, of which 250 are Simmental stud cattle.
